The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (AELTC), located on Church Road, Wimbledon, London, is a revered institution in the world of sport, primarily for hosting The Championships, the only Grand Slam still played on grass. Established on July 23, 1868, initially as a croquet club, it soon embraced the emerging sport of lawn tennis, holding its first championship in 1877. With a Centre Court capacity of 14,979 seats and No. 1 Court seating 12,345, the club offers an intimate yet electrifying atmosphere. Beyond the tournament, the AELTC is an active members' club with world-class facilities, including the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.
Wimbledon, the pinnacle of grass-court tennis, holds the title of the oldest and universally regarded most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. Since its first edition in 1877, organised by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon, it has been the stage for countless historic sporting moments. It is distinguished not only as the only Grand Slam played on tennis's original surface, grass, but also for its deep-rooted traditions, including a strict all-white dress code for competitors, the consumption of strawberries and cream accompanied by champagne, and distinguished royal patronage.
The tournament traditionally takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, culminating with the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Singles Finals. Centre Court, with its retractable roof installed in 2009, is the heart of the event, having witnessed some of the most memorable and lengthy finals in history.
